5-0-1

Well, we are off to a flying start. Almost maximum points out of the first six games. It was nice to see our exchange student from Germany finally get a goal. He scored a brace to lead us past Shamokin on Thursday. he picked up an assist to keep him on pace to set the record for assists in the season, in which case he would pass Adam Scheibler, my assistant coach at Loyalsock. Looking forward we are on the road against Southern Columbia on 9/13/08 followed by 3 home games against Warrior Run, Jersey Shore and Bloomsburg. That will wrap up the first set of games through the league and will put us int the second half of the season. The real question is will we be tested enough heading into the playoffs. The answer is I do not know, but it is a fact that has me worried. We may have to scrimmage a quality team following the end of the season to sharpen our focus going into playoffs.

Matt's Classroom

Ideally I would like to teach in a small school with a total enrollment of 500. In this setting I would be employed as a Health teacher as well as a Physical Educator. I would prefer to work with students grade 9-12, but would be willing to teach all grade levels. If I could ultimately end up teaching in Loyalsock, where I currently coach, I would be exteremely pleased. My classes would focus on skills and knowledge that would enable students to pursue a healthy lifestyle throughout their lives.

Under pressure and running behind

While the soccer team is off to a flying start, 4-0-1, I am feeling the weight of my courseload. I am slightly behind on classwork and struggling to stay organized here at the beginning of the semester. Thankfully the long road trips and the weekday night games are behind me. This should free up some more time in the evening to study and get caught up. Although I am feeling the pressure I am happy to be involved in so many classes. I knew it would be a challenge going into the semester, and I am looking forward to rising to that challlenge.

About Me...

....I am a 32 year old junior attending Lock Haven University. Originally from State College I have lived in various parts of Central Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh, PA. I have worked various service industry jobs such as a cook and bartender while pursuing my RPTM degree from Penn State before being employed by the Second to None soccer club as a manager of the indoor sport facility located in Muncy. The facility was later donated to the YMCA and as a result I was left in limbo and decided it was time for a lifestyle change. Currently I am employed by Loyalsock Township School District as the boy's varsity soccer coach. I have been coaching soccer for 14 years, including 6 years as a scholastic coach within the State College Area School District, as a middle school and junior varsity coach.
